Places to visit while staying at a holiday cottage in South of Scotland

Southern Scotland may not be quite as spectacular as further north, but it still provides great families break with its stunning landscapes. It should never be simply bypassed on the way to Glasgow or Edinburgh or the Highlands; as it has many exciting attractions on offer for the whole family.

Red Deer Range, Newton Stewart is one of the best places in the UK to see wild herds of deer, and you can get surprisingly close to them and sometimes even touch them!

Floors’ Castle in Kelso is also a great adventure as it sits above the river Tweed and houses many extraordinary works of art. The castle offers activities such as shooting and golf!

King’s Cave in the Isle of Arran is believed to be the very cave in which Robert the Bruce drew inspiration from a small spider and went on to lead Scotland to many victories!

Burns National Heritage Park, Ayr incorporate the famous Burn’s Cottage, and offers an amazing insight to arguably Scotland’s greatest son.

Gretna Green, Dumfries is the most famous place of marriage in the world, and has been one of Scotland’s most loved attractions! Also, there has been a recently added exhibition to make the trip seem a little more worthwhile.

Dunaskin Heritage Centre, Ayr explores the coal and iron industries that form such an integral part of Scotland’s history.
