Things You'll Love
For those of you who like a little activity on your holiday, perhaps a days fishing on the River Spey, a trek along one of the regions many cycle trails and footpaths and of course golf. You could play a round at a different local course every day for a week and still not have played them all!
Whether you want an active holiday, golf, fishing, walking or prefer to spend time taking in the sights, the Whisky Trail and the breathtaking Scottish countryside, Burghead offers you the ideal base. A short day trip away lies the Cairngorm National Park with its magnificent mountains, lochs and glens, or Royal Deeside, Braemar and Balmoral Castle, perhaps some monster spotting in Loch Ness.
Location
Shops, including a well stocked grocery store, chemist and Post Office, are just around the corner from the cottages and there are three local hotels serving a range of excellent home cooked fare.
A two minute stroll can find you down by the harbour watching the fishermen unload their catch, or, admiring the panoramic views over the Moray Firth to the mountains beyond. To the east is the coastal path to Hopeman or walk to the west along seven miles of glorious sandy beaches backed by dunes and forest, leading to Findhorn.
Pause and take time to enjoy the breathtaking Scottish countryside. A ramble into the hills may be rewarded with the sight of deer, birds of prey or red squirrel. Burghead Bay is a birdwatchers paradise and if you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of the Moray Firth dolphins that regularly visit this coast. Burghead itself is the site of an ancient Pictish hill fort and many artefacts and carved stones, including the "Burghead Bull", have been found here.
The nearest town is Elgin (8 miles) and to the west is Inverness (35 miles) with its main transport links including an airport.
