Danes Cottage is an Edwardian built town house built around 1837 in the popular Steep Hill area of Lincoln. It has extended views across the south of Lincoln from the rear of the property and the Cathedral is visible from the front. It borders Lincoln's Cathedral and Cultural Quarters.

The Cathedral and the Bailgate area 5 minutes walk from Danes Cottage up the famous Steep Hill. The University and Braydord area are 10 minutes in the opposite direction.

Danes Cottage is the ideal place to stay to explore Lincoln 's history from, or visit the Museum, Art Gallery, Theatre, shops restaurants and pubs all within walking distance.

Danes Cottage can sleep 3 people, with its double room and single room. A seperate guest bed can be made available on request suiting a child.

All rooms are No Smoking and pets are not welcome only guide dogs, this is to ensure that every guest recieves the four star quality service throught the accommodation. Danes Cottage was awarded a 4 star self catering award by Quality in Tourism in February 2007 for its quality and standard.

THE LOUNGE
The lounge has a TV, radio, video, DVD player and a Sony Playstation 1 for your bored teenager. We do have a small selection of popular video games, DVD's and local history videos of Lincoln.

The lounge contains a three and two seater sofa. All furniture conforms to the Furniture and Furnishings Fire Safety Regulations 1998.

Danes Cottage is heated via a conventional gas central heating system which can be programmed to suit your requirements during your stay. Danes Cottage is yearly inspected by a CORGI registered engineer to conform to The Gas Safety Regulations 1994.

All portabe appliances are tested yearly to IEE code of practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.

DINING ROOM
The Dining Room has seating for four people around the table. It also contains guest information packs in the form of visitor attractions and places to eat. We also have a small library of Lincoln local history books and magazines.

Beneath the stairs we have a vacuum cleaner plus an iron and ironing board for use with the washer dryer during long stays.

KITCHEN
The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob and electric oven, built in fridge, freezer, a washer dryer, toaster, kettle and microwave. It contains a full compliment of crockery and utensils enough to cater for six people. Tea and coffee are provided and a welcome pack can be tailored to your needs ready for your arrival at the cottage upon request.

Danes Cottage has a Fire Risk Assessment which is reviewed yearly and made available to every guest. The main fire fighting appliances are contained in the kitchen in the form of an extinguisher and fire blanket.

BEDROOM 1
Bedroom 1 is a double bedroom with plenty of drawer and wardrobe space. All bedding is supplied for your stay. Some foreign visitors do require two individual quilts please let us know if you would like this for your stay.

A seperate put me up bed is available for a fourth person complete with bedding please let os know on the booking form if you would like this making up for you stay. Alternatively there is a travel cot for a small infant/baby, again please let us know when booking if you would like this facility.

Bedroom 1 has views of uphill Lincoln and the Cathedral.

BEDROOM 2
Bedroom 2 is a single with its own chest of drawers and bedside table lamp. Bedroom 2 has extensive views to the south of Lincoln.

BATHROOM
The bathroom is equipped with an electric shower and standard bath WC and washbasin and ample clean towels. Clean bedding and plenty of fresh towels our always on hand. A laundry service is available upon request.

REAR GARDEN AREA
The private garden area to the rear contains external seating and a barbeque. The garden is planted with bamboo screening and a mixture of hard and soft landscaping around a small grassed lawn.

You can book a stay at Danes Cottage for one night or several. The pricing is based on the longer you stay the cheaper it is. The price breaks are as follows 1-2 days, 3-5 days and 6 days or more.

ARRIVAL
We will e-mail or telphone you 2-3 days before your check in date with an entry code for Danes Cottage to gain entry.

After unloading your cases at the front door you can make use of the public car park to the rear of the property

By Car
Lincoln is easily accessible from most major road networks and sits on the A46, to find your way to Danes Cottage, you should follow signs for the Castle and Cathedral, then use our detailed maps below to locate the cottage.

A common question we get asked is where is the nearest car park. A short stay is directly behind Danes Cottage in Danes Terrace. The nearest long stays are just up the hill in Westgate or just down the hill in Broadgate.

By Train
Lincoln Central Station is situated on St Marys Street in Lincoln. Directly outside the station is the main taxi rank. Danes Cottage is a five minute ride from here in a taxi. Alternatively when leaving the station on foot turn right along St Mary's Street until you reach Melville Street turn left and follow the road uphill with the cathedral directly in front of you. Once over the river you are then on Broadgate, at the main Broadgate traffic lights take the second left into Clasketgate. The first right off Clasketgate takes you onto Flaxengate. Go to the top of the hill onto Danes Terrace and turn left towards Steep Hiil. Well lane is the first right off Steep Hill.

By Bus
Lincoln's main bus station is on the corner of St Mary's Street and Melville Street.

By Plane
Lincoln's nearest airports are Humberside and East Midlands, airport travel to Danes Cottage can be arranged by prior request. By Cycle
Lincoln's lies on National Cycle Route number 64 Lincoln to Newark and Cycle route number 1 Lincoln to Boston. When crossing Broadgate via the pedestrian bridge make your way north towards the Cathedral and The main Broadgate traffic light as above in the train description.

By Foot
The Viking Way passes through Lincoln a walk which stretches from the Humber Bridge to Oakham. The path enters Lincoln and passes Danes Cottage on Steep Hill at the end of the road.
Lincoln has a dedicated walk and ride bus service to travel up and down the hill with the nearest stop to Danes Cottage being the next street down Danes Terrace outside The Collection Museeum. It runs 10.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Saturday every 20 minutes and noon to 5pm on Sundays at a cost of just £1.
