Ferryboat Cottage
Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland
"A beautiful, traditional Galloway cottage, with two wood-burning stoves, Ferryboat Cottage is one of the oldest properties in the area and is truly unique."
Things You'll Love
Tastefully furnished, with cosy woodburning stove and vibrant modern colours. The oak-beamed ceiling adds old-world character.
Location
As its name suggests, this original ferrymaster's cottage stands in one acre of sheltered, lawned gardens, all south-facing and providing private access to the loch. The cottage also has electric storage heaters, making it very cosy, whatever the time of year.
With easy access to the Solway coast, Loch Ken is South West Scotland's centre for outdoor activities, with horse riding, golfing, sailing and water-skiing nearby.
Loch Ken is renowned for its fishing - this together with swimming can be enjoyed from the floating jetties at the bottom of the garden. A swinging mooring and private launching are also available. The gardens contain areas of European SSI and are a haven wildlife, including the adjacent RSPB Nature Reserve with the Red Kite Trail.
