A warm friendly welcome awaits you with underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs and a wood burning stove in the living room. It has its own garden and large patio, complete with picnic table and barbeque.
There are free bikes to enjoy and a games room with pool and ping pong. There is free trout fishing nearby.
Location
The Byre is well situated for exploring Dumfries and Galloway, being 10 miles north of Dumfries, the last home of Robert Burns, and 20 miles from Castle Douglas.
Low Kirkbride is conveniently situated in the heart of Nithsdale, ideal for exploring Dumfries & Galloway. For a pleasant day out there are many scenic drives north, south, east and west.
Round the Solway Coast is always beautiful, passing through New Abbey, where we find Sweetheart Abbey. Abbey Cottage is a delightful place to stop for a cup or a bite to eat. On south from New Abbey is Kirkbean and John Paul Jones Cottage; where the founder of the American Navy was born. You can catch a fish at the Kirkhouse Fishery in Kirkbean itself.
We are ten miles from Dumfries, famous for Robert Burns, and the Globe Inn is well worth visiting. In Dumfries and the surrounding area there are many Museums
Another lovely drive is to Castle Douglas and Gatehouse of Fleet, where we find Cream O' Galloway famous for ice cream and nature trails.
North from Low Kirkbride is Scotland's highest village at Wanlockhead, with its world-famous Lead Mining Museum.
Owner's Description
The Byre, as the name suggests, used to house and milk 40 cows and has recently been converted to a contemporary three bedroom cottage. The cottage sleeps from 1 to 8 people, with extra capacity on a sofa bed in the studio.
Ground Floor Accommodation: There are two entrances to the Byre. One goes from the patio and then into the living room. The other entrance is along the side of the cottage, up three steps into the hall.
The Living Room : The Living Room opens out ont the patio through French windows. It has an L-shaped sofa, A Multifuel stove, a 28-inch TV with DVD player and a small selection of DVDs.
The Dining Area : The Dining Area has a table with six chairs, a sideboard and a breakfast bar with two higher chairs. The breakfast bar forms the division between this area and the Kitchen.
The Kitchen : The Kitchen is well appointed with integrated units. The kitchen has a microwave, dishwasher and washing machine/tumble dryer.
The Downstairs Bedrooms : Downstairs there are two bedrooms. The Yellow Bedroom is fitted with a double divan bed, a wardrobe, dressing table, two bedside cabinets and bedside lights, a towel rail and a TV. It looks out over the garden with views up Kirkbride Hill. It has an ensuite wet room, floored with Tetra non-slip tiles.
The Blue Bedroom has a double and a single bed, both beds having bedside cabinets and lights. There is a wardrobe, towel rail, and an attractive table with two chairs and a TV. The Blue bedroom looks out onto the yard.
The Hall : The Hall leads into both bedrooms, the kitchen and the downstairs bathroom.
The Studio :This has a sofa bed, TV and a bookcase.
The Twin Bedroom : This has twin single beds, a wardrobe, chest of drawers and TV. There is an ensuite bathroom with shower. There are two Velux windows, the larger one opens to provide a super panoramic view around the farm and the surrounding countryside.
The Garden and Patio:The Living Room opens out onto a sandstone patio with table, chairs and a barbeque. Round the corner is a grass lawn surrounded by shrubs and with feature of cobble stones which came out of the byre. From the patio, a ramp leads to the car park area. New for 2007 - an extra garden with a stream running through.
Things You Need To Know
We have a games room with Snooker and Ping-pong. This is shared with the Bed & Breakfast guests. It is beside the boiler, so keeps cosy and is a good place to dry outdoor clothes.
We have some bicycles to lend, and being six miles from where the bicycle was invented, we have some excellent quiet roads. For the more adventurous, we are close to Ae and Mabie forests - the Seven Stanes.
We have a walking leaflet with walks starting and finishing at Low Kirkbride, as well as local walking leaflets for those walking further afield. We have our own Farm Trail, and the FWAG Wildlife Box has information about the farm, colouring sheets for children and excellent books on wildlife.

How to find us :
Low Kirkbride is in South West Scotland, 45 miles north-west of Carlisle, 78 miles from Glasgow and 80 miles from Edinburgh.
Directions from the South:
Take the A75 and then the A76 towards Kilmarnock and Thornhill. After approximately 2 miles, turn left to Dunscore on the B729. Go into Dunscore and at the mini-roundabout bear right down the hill past the hotel. Just after the de-restriction signs there is a crossroads, go right and follow the road for about 1½ miles past a ruined tower at Lagg, and take the first left (north) at a the triangle of grass. Low Kirkbride is the first farm on the left.
Directions to Low Kirkbride from the North:
Take the M74 south, leaving the motorway at Junction 14, taking the A702 towards Elvanfoot and Thornhill. After apporoximately 15 miles go left at the A76, through Thornhill and after approximately 6 miles go right at Auldgirth towards Dunscore. After approximately 1 mile take the first right to Keir, Penpont and Glenmidge, then after a further mile turn left to Glenmidge. Take the first right at Glenmidge and then first right again at the 'Everyone's flocking to Low Kirkbride' sign. Low Kirkbride is the first farm on the left. From Auldgirth to Low Kirkbride is 3 miles.

Cycling...
Super routes in really quiet countryside. Bikes to borrow and a lockable shed for bikes. Keir Mill, where the Bicycle was invented, is six miles away and we are half a mile from the KM Trail.
