Carswell is a family owned working organic dairy farm with lots of cows and a few sheep and some domestic chickens! We put a jug of our delicious organic milk (unpasteurised and fresh from our cows) in the fridge for your arrival - with our compliments.

We also put a selection of local organic meat, from our Well Hung Meat Co. in the freezer for you to try - just choose what you want and put the money in the honesty box.

Due to the nature of farming there is always something going on, whatever time of year and you are welcome to come along and enjoy the experience.

The environment here offers the perfect life for children - fresh air, open space and plenty to see that will fire their imaginations. Add the fact that it is only a short walk to the beach and you have paradise for every little adventurer.

Location

In the heart of the South Hams in Devon, Carswell Farm is surrounded by unspoilt countryside and the coastal path is right on the doorstep, providing stunning walks that lead to quiet beaches and picturesque villages.


The farm is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with an exceptional variety of wildlife and plants, including some extremely rare species that are encouraged because the farm is organic. Carswell is one of the few places in the country where you could spot a cirl bunting and there is a pair of faithful Peregrine Falcons who nest on the cliff here every year.

We have an abundance of wildlife - hares, bats and badgers are just a few of the residents you are sure to see, and many more besides. We have barn owls and little owls residing in the old barns behind Lambside House - walk down the farm lane and see if you can see them out hunting.

Spring Cottage is a semi-detached farm workers cottage situated right on the coast and with sea views from upstairs.

Carswell Farm Cottages has five peaceful cottages, Spring Cottage is on eof them, dotted around our working organic dairy farm set in unspoilt countryside on the beautiful South Devon coast.

All our cottages are just a few minutes walk from the coast path and some lovely remote beaches, whilst the wilderness of Dartmoor is only a short drive away. The wonderful Erme estuary and Mothecombe beach, with over 130 acres of sand at low tide, is just a couple of miles away.

Owner's Description

This three-bedroom semi-detached house is ideal for a family of up to six and has a main bedroom, which has twin beds, a double room and a single with full sized bunk beds. The main bathroom is upstairs and has a bath with a shower over.

Downstairs, there is a comfy lounge with an open fire, a large kitchen/dining room, a second toilet and a utility room.

The large, flat and open garden has garden furniture and a barbecue and is fenced, making it ideal for children and dogs to play in.

As well as the open fire, Spring Cottage has night storage heating. It also has all the standard facilities that we offer. Bed linen and towels are all provided, as well as tea-towels, bath mats and environmentally friendly cleaning materials. We put delicious organic milk in the fridge for your arrival - with our compliments, along with enough recycled paper toilet rolls, Fair Trade tea, coffee, sugar and local organic herbal tea to get you started!

Things You Need To Know

Feel free to explore the farm and we are happy to give you a tour of the milking process and equipment (by prior arrangement and wellies a good idea). Apart from the industrial side though, life generally involves plenty to see but we do ask that you respect the farm and follow the country code.

From Exeter, follow the A38 to the Wrangaton turning and take the A3121 signposted to Ugborough and Modbury. Follow this road for a few miles and then turn right onto the A379 towards Plymouth. After about 1 mile, turn left towards Holbeton and Mothecombe. Stay on this right, passing through the hamlet of Battisborough Cross and Carswell Farm is about 1 mile on the left. Lambside Farm is about another mile on the right.

We also offer the option of ordering a huge organic Devon Breakfast Hamper full of local and organic produce - just the thing to set you up for day out walking or exploring! The hamper includes wonderful organic sausages and bacon from the Well Hung Meat Company, as well as tomatoes, mushrooms, milk, fruit, muesli, yoghurt, cereal, eggs, bread, preserves and fruit juice - all organic and locally sourced. There is plenty for 2 breakfasts, probably 3 or 4!
