Location

Set on the edge of the picturesque village of Galmpton, a mile from the sea and surrounded by South Devon countryside and woodland. The cottage is within a short walk of the River Dart Creek. Galmpton borders Torbay and South Hams and the award winning Broadsands sandy beach is just over a mile. Galmpton offers a general/post office shop, butcher and a pub/ restaurant, which is exactly a half a mile away. From the village there is quick access to Greenway House (National Trust), once residence to Agatha Christie and a short walk from there to the ferry boat across the Dart to the pretty village of Dittisham. The medieval market town of Totnes is 6 miles. The Dart river-side-village of Stoke Gabriel is 3 miles. The fishing port of Brixham is 3m. Dartmouth 5m to the car or passenger ferry crossing the Dart.

Welcome to Barnacle Cottage - self catering holiday cottage in South Devon.

Set in a peaceful rural spot, Barnacle Cottage offers a lovely traditional cottage holiday opportunity. The cottage retains much character with open stone walls and beams but offers a high level of comfort.

The living area is open plan and incorporates two sofas and dining seating for 4/6 people. Oak flooring thoughout. The kitchen is modern and well equipped with dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and electric oven and hob.

For evenings in, there is a large flat screen TV with Sky in the lounge, DVD/CD players, games and books. A second TV/video upstairs in the main bedroom. Linen and towels are provided. It's warm and cosy in the winter with night storage heaters with electricty included. The owner Phyllis is on hand next door and offers use of washer/dryer in separate utility room.


The double and two single beds are very comfortable with linen provided. There is also a quality sprung sofa bed downstairs in the lounge.

The smaller bedroom overlooks to the front with far reaching views of fields and horses. It is ideal for one adult or two children. The second bed stores underneath and pulls out with folding legs.

Barnacle Cottage has a tranquil rear garden with private area for the sole use of cottage visitors with swing seat and BBQs. Far reaching country views and woodland surrounds. The garden is about half an acre with several tiers and seating areas.

Things You Need To Know

Well behaved dogs are welcome with the usual restrictions of no paws on sofas or beds. The whole area is very dog friendly and therefore dogs are not allowed 'home alone'.

M5 onto A380 and follow direction TORQUAY. Follow this road keeping direction Torquay/Paignton/Totnes/Newton Abbot. At Newton Abbot there is a major roundabout where you will keep direction Torquay. (Newton Abbot is approx 10 miles from Galmpton). Before Torquay bear right following the A380 (Ring Road) at the roundabout direction Brixham/Dartmouth/Totnes bypassing Torquay and Paignton.

Continue on this road direction Brixham/Dartmouth and you will pass Focus DIY/Kentucky Fried Chicken and then Sainsbury's/McDonalds on your right. At the major junction with the A3022 (Brixham Road) with sign for Torquay/Paignton left turn right (direction Brixham/Dartmouth A3022). After this right turn take an immediate right (signposted Doctor's Surgery) onto Langdon Lane which borders a common to the left and this leads straight down into Galmpton village.**

If you miss this turn take next right after signpost for Galmpton/Greenway Quay onto Manor Vale Road. Continue on this road and then bear right onto Stoke Gabriel Road. You will see Galmpton's local pub The Manor Inn. Continue past the pub staying on Stoke Gabriel Road for exactly half a mile which leads you through Galmpton passing the Congretational Church on the right and the local shops on your left. Continue straight heading out of the village and just before the derestriction sign before a hill (Port Hill) you will see Barnacle and Port Hill Cottages on the right. They are pink and are the very last houses in the village.

***If you took the first turning onto Langdon Lane, continue straight over a small roundabout and as you enter the village down a small hill you will see a signpost right for Stoke Gabriel and Local shops. Turn right there onto Stoke Gabriel Road and you will pass the Congregational Church on your right and follow as above.
