Cnocaruan Sea View
Connel, Argyll and Bute, Scotland
"Sea view selfcatering accommodation close to Oban in our recently built extension to Victorian property midst cottage garden."
Things You'll Love
How would you like to wake up to a sea view every day of your holiday?
Every room offers spectacular views over the tidal rapids; The Falls of Lora.
And from the patio panoramic views over Mull and Lismore.
We regularly spot seals from the house and if you are really in luck; otters!
Cnocaruan is the perfect base to discover all Argyll has to offer in scenery, history and wildlife.
Location
Connel stands astride Loch Etive where it narrows on its approach to the Firth of Lorn and the open sea. The name comes from the gaelic for rough water, the equivalent of today's name for the narrow's; The Falls of Lora.
The smooth, glassy surface of the stunning Loch belies the hairy roller coaster ride after a spring tide. Quite often you can see canoeists cavorting in the waves at that time. A rocky shelf causes spectacular rapids here during parts of the tide cycle.
By the late 1600's a village started to develop here where a ferry was in operation. The village was long known as Connel Ferry. Nowadays Connel has a local shop and Post Office, 3 restaurants, a regular train connection and bus service into Oban.

Other Information
My favourite places and walks in Argyll are:
A trip to Crinan; just sit at the locks and watch the goings-on with boats travelling through the canal.
A drive through Glen Lonan with lots of Highland cows to see, nice scenery and come out at Taynuilt to collect smoked salmon or trout pate from Inverawe smokehouse for lunch.
Take a boat trip over to Kerrera and visit Gylen Castle on a good day armed with a bottle wine and corkshrew.
Drive to Craignish past Ardfern and enjoy peace & quiet and views over Scaba and Jura.
A trip to Mull, if you take the car across make sure to head for Glengorm Castle north of Tobermory to have lunch. Visit Tobermory with it's colourful seafront and it's many lovely shops. There is a great walk from the Pier toward the lighthouse with wonderful views over the Sound of Mull and return via the golfcourse.
Head over Ballachullish Bridge and turn off for Kinlochleven after 5 miles you'll find the Kinlochleven Seafood Cafe, very reasonable priced and mighty good too!
In summer join the Jacobite steamtrain (the Hogwart Express) from Fort William to Mallaig for the most scenic trainride in Britain.
A trip to Easdale is a must for adrenaline junkies to enjoy an outing on the Seafari trip with a chance to spot lots of wildlife if the weather is right.
A visit to Castle Stalker Cafe and enjoy the views over to one of Scotland's loveliest castles.
Head up to Ben Lora for great views over Benderloch and Connel.
There are numerous gardens in the area well known for their amazing azaleas and rhododendron collections.
Or just enjoy the view from the house or patio with plenty of wildlife to see and get hypnotised by the sight & sound of the water.
