In the converted Old Byre of Kilchrist are four totally separate holiday cottages full of character and in a lovely location in the lea of a castle and surrounded by rolling countryside - yet only three miles from Campbeltown.
The location is stunning, set among rolling hills and with a feeling of being right on your own. Yet Campbeltown, the 'wee toon' is just three miles away. It is proud of its state-of-the-art new swimming pool and fitness suite, and also has plenty of interesting shops, cafes and restaurants. The owl centre is a recent attraction.

This type of holiday appeals to wildlife watchers, cyclists, surfers, golfers, beachcombers, and those who just like to get away from it all.

MacDonald is semi-attached single storey cottage furnished in traditional style. It offers a double and a twin bedroom both with views towards the castle. Smoking is permitted in this cottage only, and one well-behaved pet is allowed at no extra charge.

Things You Need To Know

There are lots of jokes about Scottish weather and some of them are at least partly true! It can be wet and windy in Kintyre at times, so come prepared. But did you know that the West of Scotland is mild due to the Gulf Stream? There are even palm trees growing in Campbeltown! That is because frosts are rare.

Last May, some Australian friends staying at Kilchrist were heard to say, 'It's too hot!'
So you may be in for a pleasant surprise, but be prepared for anything. To see the Kintyre hills emerge from a mist is beautiful, to see the sunset over the Atlantic on a fine evening awe-inspiring!

You can travel by land, sea or air! But some forms of transport take longer.

By land
Drive to Glasgow, then over the Erskine bridge and on to the A82. From Loch Lomond onwards it is a beautiful drive and warrants a few stopping off places! You drive along at least five lochs, and the last part of the journey is along the stunning Atlantic coastline! There are also buses from Glasgow for the seasoned traveller.
By sea
You could take the ferry to Arran, and in summer there is a ferry off the other side of Arran direct onto the East side of Kintyre. In summer there is a passenger only boat from Troon in Ayrshire.
By air
There are twice daily flights to Campbeltown airport from Glasgow, at present only during the week.
